One of the nation’s first urban renewal projects to embrace historic preservation, Society Hill is an important case study of adaptive reuse, public-private partnerships, and urban revitalization.

The neighborhood includes numerous 18th century houses, modern infill development, and the I.M. Pei-designed Society Hill Towers, interwoven with a system of pedestrian greenways installed in the 1960s as part of the urban renewal program. Today Society Hill is one of Philadelphia’s most affluent neighborhoods.
