As the oldest and largest design event of its kind in the country, the DesignPhiladelphia Festival annually showcases the work of over 400 practicing architects, designers, and creative professionals to demonstrate Philadelphia’s reemergence as a 21st century city shaped by design, technology, and collaborative business practices. Over the course of nine days, places such as universities, cultural institutions, civic associations, city agencies, retailers, manufacturers, and startups across the city, participate in more than 120+ distinct events including talks, panel discussions, exhibitions, tours, workshops, and public happenings.
The 2015 Festival
The 11th annual Festival will take place from October 8-16, 2015 and include programming exploring the theme: SHIFT (e.g. paradigm shift, transformation, shift into motion, shifting perspectives). An information session will be held in late March or early April for those interested in participating. Stay tuned to the blog, follow us on social media, or sign up for our newsletter to receive pertinent announcements.
Pearl Street Passage
Pearl Street Passage promises to be a marquee event during the 2015 DesignPhiladelphia Festival. For several days in October, the 1100 block of Pearl Street, an alleyway in the Chinatown North/Callowhill neighborhood, will be transformed with about 10 installations created by multi-disciplinary teams of artists, designers, makers, builders, neighborhood stakeholders and others. The handsome constructions will be experiential, educational and fun. Most of all, the Passage will announce Pearl Street as a place that promotes creativity and social vibrancy.
